Austrian Airlines Launches New Service to Los Angeles

Austrian Airlines Launches New Service to Los Angeles
Occasion marks the airline’s first direct flights between the U.S west coast and Vienna, Austria

Today, Austrian Airlines began its new, non-stop service between Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, California. Flight OS 081 departed from Vienna (VIE) at 10:03 a.m. local time, and is scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 1:20 p.m. local time. Eastbound flight OS 082 will depart Los Angeles at 3:05 p.m. local time, and is due to land in Vienna at 12:05 p.m. local time tomorrow (April 11, 2017). Austrian Airlines will initially be operating a five-times-weekly service on the new route; starting June 13 this number will increase to six flights a week.

“Austrian Airlines is the third passenger airline of the Lufthansa Group to provide service to the important Los Angeles market, which is one of our largest U.S. gateways in terms of passenger volume,” said Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Vice President Airline Sales for The Americas for Lufthansa Group. “Adding this market to Austrian Airlines’ network provides our west coast customers with another key, centrally located hub in Europe for easy transfers to more than 130 destinations worldwide, and thus, another option for Angelenos to easily visit friends and relatives abroad. With this new service, the Lufthansa Group will now offer 46 weekly flights to and from California.”

“Effective immediately, direct flights to Vienna will not only be offered from the East, but with Los Angeles, also from the West Coast,” explained Austrian Airlines Chief Financial Officer Heinz Lachinger. “We have been successfully working on the expansion of our flight program from the U.S. to Vienna in the last four years. There is growth potential.”

Onboard Experience

The Boeing 777-200, which is used on the LAX-VIE route, offers a two-class configuration that includes 48 Business Class seats and 260 Economy Class seats, for a total of 308 seats.

Austrian’s Business class cabin interior of the long-haul fleet was modernized in 2013 and now features an elegant cabin design with that special “Austrian touch”, as well as innovative seats that turn into nearly 6-1/2 feet long full flat beds. Business class passengers will enjoy the airline’s unique “Flying Chef” program where gourmet menus are created and then refined on-board by professional chefs. Sommeliers are also on-hand to recommend suitable wines to complement the menu.  Business Class passengers can also savor a wide array of coffees provided through Austrian Airlines’ Original Viennese Coffee House Service on-board. Typically, ten Austrian coffee variations are served– ranging from the “Großer Brauner” and ever-popular “Wiener Melange” through to real specialties such as the “Wiener Fiaker”. Austrian Airlines is the only airline in the world to provide this highly regarded service.

Connections and destinations

Austrian Airlines provides passengers connecting in Vienna with access to the Austrian Star Alliance Terminal, which enables connections in as little as 25 minutes. Customers will especially enjoy the direct access the new Austrian Airlines route will provide to Vienna, the capital of the carrier’s “home country”.  One of the great European capitals, Vienna was the stomping ground for the Habsburg rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for centuries. The empire is long gone, but reminders have been preserved. Past artistic glories thrive due to the cultural legacy of the artistic geniuses nourished in this city—including Mozart, Schubert, Strauss and Gustav Klimt. Today's visitors discover a city with a special grace that sets it apart from other European cities. Austria is a country that has not forgotten the elegance of a time gone by.

Vienna’s city center can be accessed in only 16 minutes utilizing the “Vienna Card”, which Austrian Airlines has arranged through partnerships, offering passengers up to 210 discounts on museums, tourist sights, theaters, concerts, shopping and much more. Austrian Airlines passengers can purchase Europe’s best city card online after booking their flight at austrian.com.

Additionally, Austrian Airlines is part of the A++, a multilateral transatlantic joint venture that exists between the Lufthansa Group, Air Canada and United Airlines. It covers all of the airlines’ North Atlantic routes and associated connecting flights and thus offers customers more destinations and route options, seamless service, fewer and shorter connection times and a much wider range of products & services.

The airline’s North American service in brief

Austrian Airlines’ summer 2017 flight schedule offers approximately 43 weekly non-stop flights from North America. This includes up to four times per week from Miami, a maximum of six weekly flights from both Los Angeles and Toronto, and up to one flight a day from Washington, D.C. and Chicago. Austrian Airlines will continue to offer thirteen weekly flights from New York. For further information and reservations visit www.austrian.com.

Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest carrier and operates annually a global route network of approximately 130 destinations, being particularly dense in Central and Eastern Europe with 35 destinations. Thanks to its favorable geographical location at the heart of Europe, the company’s hub at Vienna International Airport is the ideal gateway between East and West. Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of the Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international airlines. "A Beast’s Belle" a New Book Based on the Classic "Beauty and the Beast"

Inline image 1
A Beast’s BelleA BDSM Retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” to be Published by Riverdale Avenue Books

The innovative hybrid publisher, Riverdale Avenue Books has released A Beast’s Belle, a BDSM retelling of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, by first-time novelist J. Gambardella. A Beast’s Belle’s release coincides with Disney’s live-action version of the movie that opens theaters March 17th.

A Beast’s Belle offers a twist on a classic story; Isabel is the daughter of a widowed inventor and tinkerer, but leaves home to join the indentured staff of a manor. Upon arriving, she explores the rigid structure of domestic servitude and discipline in the manor, and eventually grows fascinated with the Master of the house, a feral man with curious proclivities and voracious appetites. Isabel tries to find her way in a new life at the manor, but quickly finds herself bound up with the Master of the house and engrossed in the lifestyle and ritual the manor’s occupants share.

Beauty and the Beast has become a classic story, constantly retold; my goal here is to change some of the elements of the story to explore the emotions and personalities of the beloved characters more deeply, as well as find and express the romance in BDSM and power dynamics that are such a compelling (though often under-appreciated) motif in the story," said Author J. Gambardella.

A Beast’s Belle is a classic fairy tale told in a new light,” said Publisher Lori Perkins.  “This novel reminds me of Anne Rice’s Beauty Trilogy where she retells the story of Sleeping Beauty with BDSM themes.”

Downloads of this book are available at RiverdaleAveBooks.com and also at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles Nook, iTunes, Kobo and where digital and print books are sold.

About J. Gambardella
J. Gambardella was born and raised in northern California, where he was fortunate to be raised around a rich library in a single-parent home, affording him enormous time to read. As a young adult, he had the opportunity to work in a bookstore where he interacted with some of the greatest literary minds northern and central California had to offer, taking their advice and applying it to his own fancies and fantasies. He adopted a pseudonym to work in erotic romance, and looks forward to an illustrious career sharing his perverted and idealistic imagination with a new audience.

on an All-New Episode of MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Airing Thursday, February 23 on FOX
Last night on MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, 12 young chef-testants joined eight previously announced junior home cooks to comprise this season’s Top 20 finalists. Hoping to earn a coveted white apron, the 24 remaining competitors split up into groups of four, each getting a different challenge, including making a perfect steak worthy of the MASTERCHEF kitchen, preparing a delicious chicken dish, cooking a live lobster and producing a box of six perfectly identical cupcakes. The judges then decided which two kids from each group went home and which two went on to join the Top 20.

Throughout this season, the juniors will face a wide array of exciting new challenges, including one served up by former First Lady Michelle Obama; cooking a meal for more than 50 first responders; MASTERCHEF JUNIOR’s first-ever vegan challenge from guest judge Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”); and cooking for other VIPs, including Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”) and the Muppets “Miss Piggy” and “Swedish Chef.” At the end of the competition, one talented kid will be named America’s next MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, taking home the MASTERCHEF JUNIOR trophy and a $100,000 grand prize.

In the next all-new episode, “Just Like Gordon,” airing Thursday, Feb. 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, celebrity chef Aarón Sánchez steps into the MASTERCHEF kitchen as a guest judge. The Top 20 young chefs will face their first mystery box challenge of the season, during which they will have to put their own spin on the most commonly eaten crop in the world – rice. Later in the kitchen, Chef Gordon Ramsay teaches the kids how to make his signature hand-roasted sea bass, which they must replicate.

A James Beard Award-winning chef, Aarón Sánchez is chef/owner of Mexican restaurant Johnny Sánchez, with locations in New Orleans and Baltimore. WHAT: Salt & Straw, the small-batch ice cream purveyor known for its artisanal, chef-driven approach to the American classic, will start scooping flavors from its “LA Chocolatiers” series starting Friday, February 3rd. Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek collaborated with five of his favorite local chocolate makers (CompartésTwenty-Four BlackbirdsBar au ChocolatChocoVivo, and Ococoa) to craft the decadent month-long lineup, which highlights each of their unique styles, ingredients, and techniques via ice cream. Flavors will be available by the scoop at the Larchmont Village, Abbot Kinney, Studio City, and Arts District locations all month; pints are also available for Valentine’s Day gifts at at-home splurging. For more information, visit saltandstraw.com/flavors/#la(Note: flavors will officially be updated on February 3rd.)

WHEN:  Friday, February 3rd – Thursday, March 2nd, 2017

·         Compartés' Spring Awakening: Design-forward and cutting edge, Compartés’ Jonathan Grahm creates stunning bars and truffles with the philosophy that chocolate is art. In this flavor, we captured the color and joy of Compartes’ Spring Awakening bar—milk chocolate jeweled with freeze-dried strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. In our take, we coat the same suite of berries in milk chocolate and stir them by the handful into milk chocolate ice cream with a kick of strawberry vanilla jam from Laura Ann’s Jams.

·         Twenty-Four Blackbirds' Matcha Mint Chocolate GanacheSanta Barbara bean-to-bar maker Mike Orlando combines his eclectic career path as a marine biologist, analytical chemist, drummer, and coffee enthusiast to put the science in chocolate making. This ice cream captures the method Mike uses in his mint ganache truffles—dehydrating Santa Barbara mint leaves and blending them into cream and single-origin Ecuadorian chocolate—stirred into matcha ice cream with a touch of citrus to bring everything together.

·         Bar au Chocolat's Marzipan Chocolate TangoNicole Trutanich of Bar au Chocolat has an instinctive, nearly mystical approach to making chocolate. We joined the tango in this flavor, working back-and-forth with Nicole to create a marzipan custard ice cream that pairs seamlessly with a malted milk chocolate fudge. Close your eyes and get lost in the music of every bite.

·         ChocoVivo's Mayan TraditionChocoVivo’s bean-to-bar alchemist Patricia Tsai makes incredible chocolate using a stone-grinding method inspired by Mayan and Aztec cacao craftsmanship, incorporating whole spices with roasted beans in bold flavor combinations. This spiced chocolate ice cream combines cacao nibs, California almonds, Ceylon Cinnamon Sticks, three kinds of chiles, and a touch of salt for a deliciously balanced and warming delight.

·         Ococoa's Port & Caramel Truffle: An up-and-comer in the Los Angeles chocolate scene, Ococoa’s Diana Malouf brings a gentle touch and nod to old-world chocolatier tradition with her butter cups and truffle bars, named some of “America’s Best Chocolate” by Bon Appétit Magazine. In this flavor, we showcase the flavors of Diana’s Tawny Port Truffle Bar with a port and salted caramel chocolate ice cream decked out with port chocolate sauce and slices of ganache to pump up the chocolate factor even more.
