Austrian Airlines Launches New Service to Los Angeles
Occasion marks the airline’s first direct flights between the U.S west coast and Vienna, Austria

Today, Austrian Airlines began its new, non-stop service between Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, California. Flight OS 081 departed from Vienna (VIE) at 10:03 a.m. local time, and is scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 1:20 p.m. local time. Eastbound flight OS 082 will depart Los Angeles at 3:05 p.m. local time, and is due to land in Vienna at 12:05 p.m. local time tomorrow (April 11, 2017). Austrian Airlines will initially be operating a five-times-weekly service on the new route; starting June 13 this number will increase to six flights a week.


“Austrian Airlines is the third passenger airline of the Lufthansa Group to provide service to the important Los Angeles market, which is one of our largest U.S. gateways in terms of passenger volume,” said Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Vice President Airline Sales for The Americas for Lufthansa Group. “Adding this market to Austrian Airlines’ network provides our west coast customers with another key, centrally located hub in Europe for easy transfers to more than 130 destinations worldwide, and thus, another option for Angelenos to easily visit friends and relatives abroad. With this new service, the Lufthansa Group will now offer 46 weekly flights to and from California.”

“Effective immediately, direct flights to Vienna will not only be offered from the East, but with Los Angeles, also from the West Coast,” explained Austrian Airlines Chief Financial Officer Heinz Lachinger. “We have been successfully working on the expansion of our flight program from the U.S. to Vienna in the last four years. There is growth potential.”

Onboard Experience

The Boeing 777-200, which is used on the LAX-VIE route, offers a two-class configuration that includes 48 Business Class seats and 260 Economy Class seats, for a total of 308 seats.

Austrian’s Business class cabin interior of the long-haul fleet was modernized in 2013 and now features an elegant cabin design with that special “Austrian touch”, as well as innovative seats that turn into nearly 6-1/2 feet long full flat beds. Business class passengers will enjoy the airline’s unique “Flying Chef” program where gourmet menus are created and then refined on-board by professional chefs. New Junior Wrangler Program Announced at The Home Ranch

Aspiring ranch hands will get up-close-and-personal with authentic wranglers and horses as The Home Ranch in Clark, Colorado debuts its new “Junior Wrangler Program” as part of its All-Inclusive Family Vacations.

Last night on MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, 12 young chef-testants joined eight previously announced junior home cooks to comprise this season’s Top 20 finalists. Hoping to earn a coveted white apron, the 24 remaining competitors split up into groups of four, each getting a different challenge, including making a perfect steak worthy of the MASTERCHEF kitchen, preparing a delicious chicken dish, cooking a live lobster and producing a box of six perfectly identical cupcakes. The judges then decided which two kids from each group went home and which two went on to join the Top 20. 

Throughout this season, the juniors will face a wide array of exciting new challenges, including one served up by former First Lady Michelle Obama; cooking a meal for more than 50 first responders; MASTERCHEF JUNIOR’s first-ever vegan challenge from guest judge Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”); and cooking for other VIPs, including Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”) and the Muppets “Miss Piggy” and “Swedish Chef.” At the end of the competition, one talented kid will be named America’s next MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, taking home the MASTERCHEF JUNIOR trophy and a $100,000 grand prize.  


In the next all-new episode, “Just Like Gordon,” airing Thursday, Feb. 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, celebrity chef Aarón Sánchez steps into the MASTERCHEF kitchen as a guest judge. The Top 20 young chefs will face their first mystery box challenge of the season, during which they will have to put their own spin on the most commonly eaten crop in the world – rice. Later in the kitchen, Chef Gordon Ramsay teaches the kids how to make his signature hand-roasted sea bass, which they must replicate. 

A James Beard Award-winning chef, Aarón Sánchez is chef/owner of Mexican restaurant Johnny Sánchez, with locations in New Orleans and Baltimore. He co-starred on “Chopped” and “Chopped Junior,” and is the author of two cookbooks – “Simple Food, Big Flavor: Unforgettable Mexican-Inspired Recipes from My Kitchen to Yours” and “La Comida del Barrio.” In summer 2017, Sánchez will join Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi as a permanent judge on MASTERCHEF Season Eight.
